Functional Medicine Program:

  • Functional medicine dives deeper into the patient’s history and biochemistry and asks “Why?”. Functional medicine is a biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease.
  • Includes an extensive review of personal health history with analysis of blood work, urine, stool, biomarkers, genetics, and environmental toxin exposure.
  • Functional medicine prefers natural therapies or remedies but uses conventional medicine as needed.
  • Our functional medicine practitioner, Laura Rogers, FNP-C, will develop a personalized lifestyle medicine approach to prevent and/or treat symptoms, illness, and chronic disease.
  • Functional medicine is used in conjunction with your existing doctor, not to replace them.

Tell Me More about Element Esthetics’ Functional Medicine Program:

Functional medicine uses a science-based integrative approach merging conventional medicine and alternative medicine. Traditional modern medicine focuses on treating the symptoms or disease, not the patient. Functional medicine is based around patient education, health and wellness, and disease prevention. This patient-centered approach will identify the root cause of the problem to alleviate symptoms or even resolve the health condition altogether.

This 3- phase functional medicine program will consist of:

  • A thorough review of previous medical records and laboratory work
  • Discussion about your health goals and challenges
  • Online health questionnaires about to evaluate symptoms and progress
  • Lab tests to look for nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities & allergies, gut dysbiosis, environmental toxicities, mitochondrial dysfunction, genetic mutations, neurotransmitter imbalances, immune system health, inflammation, and/or parasitic or viral infections
  • Physical Exam
  • Individualized treatment protocol
  • Follow-up visit to monitor for progress
  • Maintenance phase to stay on track

Individualized Treatment Protocols may include:

  • “Lifestyle medicine”: healthful eating, physical activity, stress management, relationships, sleep, and tobacco cessation
  • Appropriate nutritional supplementation based on lab results with Orthomolecular Products nutraceuticals and in-office IV vitamin therapy
  • Detoxification program with CellCore Biosciences protocols
  • Therapeutic nutrition plans or elimination diet guidance
  • Additional therapies such as Lymphatic Drainage & Halotherapy
  • One-on-one personal experience with emotional support and accountability

Laura Ann Rogers, FNP-C, MSN, RN, BSN

Laura Ann Rogers, FNP-C, MSN, RN, BSNAfter graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science in 2006, Laura Rogers began her nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital on a cardiothoracic surgical floor. She was recruited by Fresenius Medical Care in 2010 as a charge nurse in outpatient hemodialysis and later was promoted to a clinical manager position. Her clinical management experience inspired her to return to school for her Master’s degree in family medicine at Maryville University. In 2016, she graduated with Magna Cum Laude distinction and was certified with the AANPCB. She began her nurse practitioner career working with Nephrology & Hypertension Specialists at SSM St. Clare Hospital in Fenton MO.

With 10 years of nursing experience in conventional medicine, Laura still had a lot of questions and concerns about our current “sick-care” model. She was frustrated she couldn’t deliver the care and patient education her patients truly deserved- either due to insurance restrictions or due to time constraints. Refusing to become stagnant, Laura took a traveling position in 2018 in community health care. In 2020, she became practicing at a chiropractic wellness clinic where she practiced integrative medicine. For the first time in her career, she was able to provide prevention-focused, patient-focused care in a holistic manner – not treating patients as a label, a number, a disease or condition, or with a prescription to “band-aid” symptoms. Laura had the opportunity to collaborate with the team of chiropractic doctors to assist patients in improving lifestyle choices, exercise habits, nutritional health, assessing and managing biochemical and neuromuscular imbalances, and addressing musculoskeletal dysfunction while providing emotional support along the way. She also gained experience with trigger point injections, joint injections, and alternative pain management methods. She is a certified member of the Institute of Functional Medicine and Functional Medicine University with Dr. Ron Grisanti.

Laura’s persistent passion to ask “why?” guided her into functional medicine where she enjoys being “the medical detective” to uncover the underlying root causes of medical diagnoses and illness. She will take you through a comprehensive medical questionnaire and thoroughly review previous medical records. You will have the chance to sit down and talk about your individual health goals. Diagnostic testing as simple as blood work or as complex as genetic testing can be ordered to reveal the idiosyncrasies of your own health and shed light on unique symptom patterns that other medical doctors may have pushed off or ignored.

Functional medicine uses a science-based integrative approach merging conventional medicine and alternative medicine. Together, Laura will devise an individualized treatment plan to include “lifestyle medicine”, supplements/
nutraceuticals and/or medications if necessary, therapeutic nutrition plans, detoxification programs, stress-management practices, and other alternative self-healing therapies. The plan intends to be realistic, attainable, and fit into your daily routine. Follow-up appointments will reinforce these new lifestyle habits and practices and provide the accountability that so many of us need to stay on track.

“Physiologic and emotional healing takes time; patience is key and one should prepare to immerse oneself in the process of optimizing your health potential. Most important to remember…. it’s not always about the destination, but rather the journey.”
