What Is The Difference Between Botox and Filler?

Everyone has their opinions about Botox and Filler (such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Voluma, VolBella….and so on.) How do you know which one is for you? Well, it depends where your areas of concern lie. If your crows feet, middle brow (also called the elevens) or forehead wrinkles are the issue, you need Botox. If sagging jowls, flattening of the cheeks and/or lips are the issue, you need filler.  But there are a million options of how both types can be helpful.

Areas where Botox and Filler can be used

How Do They Work?

Botox

It suppresses the movement of muscles in your face stopping the formation of wrinkles. Botox targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Our nurse will inject these muscles with Botox to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows. It works great to prevent and reverse wrinkling in the following areas:

  • Forehead
  • Eyes (crows feet)
  • Chin
  • Above lip
  • Neck bands
  • Also fantastic for the prevention of migraine headaches

Filler

Juvederm XC or Juvederm Vollure

Juvederm is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). What’s interesting about HA is that it’s a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. The main difference between XC and Vollure is how long it lasts. Juvederm XC generally lasts a year and Vollure more like 18 months. Both Juvederm products work well to:

  • Soften the lines around your mouth (the parentheses lines)
  • Fill out lips
  • Reduce the turning down in the corners of the mouth

Voluma

Wrinkles and lines aren’t the only signs of aging. Over time, the cheeks flatten, and the skin may begin to sag. This is caused by a natural loss of volume in the cheek area, or what the experts call age-related midface volume loss. Voluma (also an HA product) is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface to lift and contour the cheek area.

Juvederm Ultra XC or VolBella

Juvederm Ultra fills out the complete fullness of the lip area while VolBella works well to help with the smaller lines above the lip (commonly called “smokers lip”). Both are also an HA product.

As you can see, they all have their place! There are a variety of other fillers on the market but we strongly believe these are the best, and no competitor comes close to Botox either!

You can read more specific information at Allergan’s website to learn even more specifics about them. But this blog should make many things clearer to you!
