Men Need Medical Spas Too!

At least once every few days I get asked the question…”do you work on men?” And the answer to that is a solid “absolutely!” So what kinds of services can (and should) men take advantage of in a Medical Spa? Let’s work from the most popular services to the least and give you a feel for what they can have done!

Medical Facials

I think we have more men who regularly get medical facials than any other service we do on men. Generally it falls into 3 categories: Microdermabrasion, Peels or even Micropeels. Microdermabrasion  helps with texture and aging issues in men. It also does a great job of helping with loose skin around the eye or neck area. Additionally, Microderm helps with general tightness and works great over a man’s beard area. Peels help with pre-cancerous lesions and age spots. In particular the VIPeel can do a great job of whipping that built up skin off of a man’s face while removing all kinds of discoloration and tightening their face. Some men even use this effectively on their bald heads to spiff up an area that tends to have lots of sun damage!  Micropeels can be a great way to help with clogged pores and acne issues, plus brightening up aging skin. Generally men come in less often than woman, even a quarterly facial can truly keep them looking younger!

Botox/Filler

BOTOX and Fillers are definitely next on the list of Medical Spa services men are lining up for! With business as competitive in the workplace as it is, it is equally important for men to keep themselves looking youthful. Injectibles are a great way to achieve that goal with little down time. It’s more important for a man to have a subtle injector for sure though. Light, effective injections that are hard to detect but keep them perked up on their faces can truly make a big difference. Since 1997 the number of cosmetic procedures done on men increased a whopping 325% with the majority of those procedures done in the age range of 35-50 years old.

Laser Hair Removal

The dawn of lots of body shaving for men has arrived (and as ladies we are quite thankful for it!) Along with that comes the need for better methods of hair removal. Laser Hair Removal in its inception was brutally painful with lots of fallout afterwards but it has truly come a long way and I think that’s helping men try these services out more these days. Quite frankly, our Lumenis Desire laser machine is so comfortable that it almost feels like a back massage with your hair removal treatment! Additionally, with “manscaping” on the rise we even have an esthetician in office who will happily wax or even laser off men’s hair in their nether regions leaving the skin afterwards incredibly soft and smooth (please don’t blush – if it were your hubby you would love it!) If your man is shaving all the time, laser hair removal in the long run could actually save you some money on razors for sure.

IPL Photorejuvenation

The downside to being a man with major redness or age spot issues is that you can’t just throw on some makeup to hide the problem. IPL Photorejuvenation is an amazing solution that men are beginning to catch on to. IPL effectively treats redness from rosacea, broken capillaries and sun damage while simultaneously boosting collagen in a man’s face. It also does a great job of removing ugly age spots in the process. After a few treatments with this laser a man’s face can avoid the embarrassment of these discoloration problems!

Laser Skin Tightening

Skin tightening for everyone is becoming a possibility! For men who want to avoid injectibles these services are a great way to reduce wrinkles significantly while still looking like themselves. There are many options on this front, there are ultrasound lasers like Ultherapy and others but they are quite painful and expensive. The fresher face in the skin tightening laser market are more advanced RadioFrequency lasers that tighten skin in a few visits in a pain-free and less costly way. There are a multitude of choices on this front, I would definitely seek a multi-frequency type machine to get the best result at all depths of tissue. My personal favorites are the Viora Reaction (which may be in our office soon) and the InMode Forma and ProForma devices, they deliver great results in a small amount of time.

With so many great choices of men’s services available, shouldn’t all men be giving something a try? It can boost confidence in the way they feel about themselves without compromising who they are.
